Drakkar’s Drift was the garden I designed for RHS Young Designer of the Year 2025, where it won Gold, Best Construction, People’s Choice, and the overall Young Designer of the Year award. It was inspired by the basalt columns of Staffa and the story of Norse-Scots encounters in the 8th century - a landscape shaped by resilience, movement, and connection. I wanted to explore how fragmented materials, habitat structures, and bold planting could come together to create something hopeful. It’s now being rebuilt in Victoria Park, Edinburgh as a permanent community greenspace, which means the garden will live on, evolve, and hopefully keep inspiring people for years to come.
